Is Valis the Villain?
This post is written by our first guest writer, Wolf, Founder of Qubic Capital. Wolf questions Valis' perception in the Qubic ecosystem and argues that the actions of Valis, far from villainous, might actually be shedding light on serious issues within the community.
How could they see anything but the shadows if they were never allowed to move their heads?
Act I: The Blog Series
Let’s ask ourselves: could Valis actually be the "villain" it’s been painted as? Might the information we've received be more nuanced than simply "go to hell, Spelunker"? Perhaps Valis has emerged from the cave to reveal reality as it truly is.
Valis has done it—he’s managed to leave the cave and return to break the chains that have kept you in darkness since birth. Valis wants to share what he has witnessed in the real world. Will you listen, or will you continue to watch shadows without questioning their reality?
This journey began on August 5, 2024, with Valis’s first blog post, where they challenge Qubic’s strategic direction. Should the focus be on attracting developers or entrepreneurs? This question has since sparked a series of posts challenging the perceived reality of those still in the cave.
I believe Valis understands the importance of delivering a viable product that attracts entrepreneurs willing to take risks for substantial rewards. These entrepreneurs will draw more users, bringing more builders to the Qubic network. Remember, shiny things don’t last!
Unfortunately, some SteCo affiliates have taken low blows at Valis without addressing the core questions raised, resorting to personal attacks and various tactics to discredit Valis.
While some claim that creating a stablecoin is an impossible feat, I counter with this: remember Elon Musk and Starship.
In a scenario where leaders and affiliates deploy disinformation to keep people in the cave, we must ask ourselves: What secrets are they hiding? Why would they want to prevent others from seeing reality?
Act II: Secrets & Marketing
Having climbed out of the cave, the path to enlightenment may be long, but now you’re outside. After a lifetime in darkness, the brightness can be blinding. Take a moment to clear your mind and let go of your assumptions.
The facts are striking: Over 30 people have access to a private group where sensitive information is shared away from thousands of other members. Major announcements, like listing news, are disclosed here in advance.
Screenshots from this group reveal a different picture. We see individuals behaving like eager children, hoping to "pump" a cryptocurrency. Marketing team members seem unable to plan beyond short-term gains, reminiscent of a pyramid scheme.
While Valis’s accusations of pump-and-dump tactics might not be entirely persuasive, they point to a bigger problem: a breakdown in leadership and management.
Valis’s serious accusations raise important questions. As a community, do we really want advisors mishandling sensitive information and responsibilities?
Consider the case of Tigerisfine. Concerns surrounding this recruitment remain unanswered. Leadership requires accountability and transparency, yet this hasn’t happened.
Do we want Qubic to be seen as yet another "shitcoin" tarnishing crypto’s reputation? Qubic deserves better. It could set a higher standard and offer a different model for the industry.
Act III: Back in the Cave
You start realizing that the reality outside the cave is different from the shadows you once knew. Valis may not be as "crazy" as you thought. But then, suddenly, it’s all black… You wake up back in the cave. Was it all a dream? What is the true reality? It takes courage to form your own vision. Could it be that you’ve been manipulated all along? Why is Valis no longer here?
Following these revelations, Valis’s entire team faced bans (later reversed for all but Spelunker). The rationale was that the pump-and-dump accusations were insufficient yet extremely serious.
Raising such accusations is indeed serious. A more cautious approach would have been to present the screenshots and question whether these are the leaders we want guiding this project. I believe some members of the team have the potential to grow Qubic, while others may need to learn by experience.
Some of these OGs were among the first to mine Qubic, acquiring significant Qubic holdings. This dynamic can lead to conflicts of interest, where certain team members pursue objectives that don’t align with the public interest or the project’s long-term vision, focusing on short-term speculation over foundational projects, such as developing a stablecoin, which requires patience but delivers lasting value.
Ultimately, we’re all human and driven by the pursuit of satisfaction. None of us are here solely for community; financial motivations are central.
This divergence in motivation can create tension between short-term price gains and long-term growth essential for success. In a community-led ecosystem, all members—from early adopters to new entrants—need to trust that the project’s evolution serves everyone’s interests.
Many questions remain about Qubic’s direction. Some may argue the Quorum exists for this purpose, though it’s still in its infancy. Valis has left the cave and given us the tools to escape. Now it’s up to us to decide what we want.
